Shut up, everyone. Thank you. →
That’s the general gist of this NPR blog entry about critics assuming the audience for Scott Pilgrim must be the least worthy people in the world.
Public Libraries Are Beating Netflix, Redbox and... →
guy:
The libraries’ 2.1 million a day eeks past Netflix, which ships 2 million movies/day, and is clearly ahead of Redbox which manages 1.4 million and sad ol’ Blockbuster who’s at 1.2 million.
Not only is it free, but our library’s selection of kid’s movies was much better than the Blockbusters in our area (before they closed) and they’re still better than Redbox’s selection (which is...

Inception in-depth →
I’m loving this (warning: it starts with about ten minutes on Salt) - a spoiler-filled, in-depth discussion of Inception from the AV Club folks. I might have enjoyed it more because it jibes with my take on the movie, but I still think it’s a good talk from people who are talking about the movie as it exists, rather than some rambling discussion about surreal film space. And for those...
It wasn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen. It was the worst longest...
– Guy walking out of Inception yesterday. I thought our crowd seemed mostly on board with it, but apparently he was not.
I loved it. I won’t bore you, but I could talk for hours and would try to justify every single thing that happened onscreen to anyone dumb enough to listen.
But then again,...
Honk my hooter!
– Random exclamation from John Cusack, Better Off Dead
What happens when I QC a print of A Single Man
Me, tearily, after first reel: God, that was gorgeous.
Co-worker: Yeah, seemed fine.
Me: Oh wait- was the print okay? Because I was talking about Colin Firth.
Co-worker: ... yes, as I said, the print seemed fine.
Me: Phew.
Hi Tumblr!
I come for the Lee, I stay for the terrible movie trailers (thanks Dan!). I get confused by tags and anything else new. It’s been a while, okay?
I would write more, but all I do now at work is catalog TV shows and all I do at home is watch them. And some movies. It’s a thrill a minute. Yesterday I stayed home and half-watched Gregory Peck in the terrible The Great Sinner, totally...

I actually like John Hughes movies
… and they meant a lot more to me than the crappy excuses for teen movies we got in the 90s (Clueless excepted, since it’s the best movie of all time). Empire Records and Can’t Hardly Wait!? Are you kidding!? Those movies don’t even have their own personailities, they’re studio-tested-into-blandness bullshit. I log back into tumblr for the first time in two weeks...

Helena Bonham Carter, please... just stop
danhacker:
We get it, you’re weird and revel in it since apparently that’s the only film role you can do now.
She’s not acting. If she wasn’t already Crazy before, Tim Burton has made her so. They are the scariest famous people I’ve ever seen in person.
And to think, “Room with a View”-era Helena used to be my hero… heroine? You know what I mean.
The Day Facebook Changed: Messages to Become... →
This is what Facebook has to say about it. They will prompt you to change or accept your new privacy settings— while the recommended setting will be to share a few things more publicly, you will have the option then and there to keep it all private. I personally have crazy privacy settings on FB: different information available to different groups of people, and I still say next to nothing...

Twitter is what you make it →
“For me, the conversation about Twitter closely resembles the tale of the blind men and the elephant. People are so determined to pin down what Twitter is and is not that they are missing the overall point: that Twitter is everything that people describe it to be. Want to share what you had for breakfast? Go for it. Want to keep tabs on a couple of friends? You got it. Professional...
She reads!
I actually finished a book! Cormac McCarthy’s The Road was excellent. I even knew what was going on most of the time. (Kidding) (Okay, not kidding, there were a couple times I totally didn’t know what was going on) (I promise I’m not illiterate)
Anyway, I watched the trailer for the movie and am quite worried about how conventional blah blah it looks, so read the book...

Now that my Kris is a house-husband and endeavoring to make affordable, tasty dinners for us, we have a renewed interest in cooking and just spent the last 45 minutes looking at this site. Now I just have to talk him into the healthy part! Thanks for the link Jess!

I’m disappointed in the lack of hysteria over this afternoon’s earthquake. I, for one, did not feel it, but I am still getting the heck out of Dodge.
THR - NBC renews 'Chuck'! →
Hooray hooray! Fedak just had a baby, so he could definitely use another season of paychecks!
danhacker:
” In the battle of Chuck vs. the Network Suits, the Buy More geek has prevailed. NBC has decided to give Josh Schwartz’s well-liked action-comedy another shot next fall.
The network picked up 13 episodes of the series from Warner Bros., which, in a business-side trend this year, made...
Good audiobooks?
I’m sorry that I now only ask questions of Tumblr; moving across the country in less than a couple weeks has made our lives a bit hectic but not very interesting to anyone but us.
But we will be driving cross-country beginning on Memorial Day, and I’m looking for some audio book recommendations. The last few I’ve tried have been failures- either books too free-form to listen to...

I'm almost finally allowed to say it
I haven’t been posting partially because I had crazy big news that I wasn’t allowed to share, but I got the official word and am just declaring it sharing time.
I’m leaving the beautiful, silly place I work and Los Angeles and the west coast altogether to take a job at another beautiful, though maybe slightly-less-silly place: the National Audiovisual Conservation Center, home...

Yes, the guy referenced is of course a total douche. Ugh, “People have called me…” But, can’t you just replace the word Twitter in this quote with Tumblr, or blogging, or Facebook...

I just have to say....
I’m on a plane, on the internet. I love you, Virgin America, and your $99 each way cross country flights!
Good book?
I’m going to be travelling for the next few days and need something interesting to read: not too heavy, not too light. I tend to not read many new books (there’s so many others to catch up on), but I like Michael Chabon, the Zadie Smith that I’ve read, and just enjoyed Dennis Lehane’s THE GIVEN DAY that was suggested by the master of all good things, Lee.
So, I’m...

I’m watching episode 1 of Make ‘Em Laugh, the PBS special that aired a few weeks back that’s now on DVD. This quote (which I’d never heard) is from that. Great stuff.

Dollhouse "13th Episode" Clarification, sort of →
Deep breaths, everyone— news is not as dire as it sounded….
Not that I’m that enamored with the show, anyway. But it’s entertaining enough and I’d be sad if Joss and company got shanked by Fox. Again.
Uh oh...
Felicia Day just tweeted that her episode of Dollhouse, episode 13, isn’t going to air. She probably wasn’t supposed to tell us that….
Lunch for two with Nathan Fillion →
I think this one would go better for the husband and I. At least the love pointed at Nathan would be coming more evenly from both of us.

I just started salivating. Seriously. But how would that conversation go?
Me: Hehe. You’re pretty.
The husband squirms.
Jon: Um, thank you, I guess?
Me: Pretty. Can I touch your hair?
The husband stomps on my foot under the table.
Jon: …
Yeah, about like that. Also, I don’t have $700. Mmm,...

If you haven’t tried it, you should get some Samuel Smith’s Organic Cider, because
A) it’s frickin’ awesome, and
B) it’s organic AND made from apples, so it has to be good for you. Right?

Reason #5068 I'm now mostly twittering instead of...
I tried to search for someone’s tumblr with this search engine and got such unsuccessful, garbled results that I laughed out loud. Then I just googled it with the word ‘tumblr’ and it popped right up. Yeah.
You guys are funny. I'm a total Fresh and Easy whore by the way- it's the only grocery store I can stand to shop in anymore. Great prepared food and reasonable prices. It's like Trader Joe's but with real soda and cereal, amongst other things.
Me: OMG, just read a blog post about how awesome the grocery stores are in California. Have you ever heard of someplace called 'Fresh and Easy'?
Dan: No, but that's my rap name.
